Cold

A nip from the ice
Sneaking through the hole
In the soul of my boot
Formed by the distance
Between you and me.

The feel in my hand
Fades with every tick
That passes on the faces
Of watches on wrists
Not wrapped around you.

A shiver down spines
Of novels untouched
When bodies, once sealed
Open at the close
Of a new chapter.

The sting of the air
When inhaled, so sharp
Cutting like the knife
That severed the strings
Holding you in my heart.
